Templates, fields and guidance
Create Word deliverables, navigate fields and read or author guidance.
What is a template?
An authored Word form with its structure, fillable fields and guidance.
Link to this answerWhat happens when I use a template in a project?
Dossier creates an independent deliverable from it.
Link to this answerDo later template edits automatically change existing deliverables?
No. Existing project documents remain independent snapshots.
Link to this answerCan I create a template from an uploaded Word document?
Yes, with the relevant authoring permission.
Link to this answerCan I start with a blank template?
What does Mark fillable do?
It identifies a native document area that users can fill.
Link to this answerDoes Unmark field delete the authored paragraph?
It removes the fillable marking while preserving authored content. It is not a general paragraph-delete command.
Link to this answerWhy do fields have names?
Names help people identify and navigate the form's intended answer areas.
Link to this answerWhat determines the order in Fields to fill?
Their positions in the actual Word document, not alphabetical order or when they were created.
Link to this answerAre all fillable fields plain text?
No. Supported fields include text, dates, choices, checkboxes, option groups and structured tables.
Link to this answerWhat is field guidance for?
Explaining what belongs in a particular answer.
Link to this answerWho edits guidance?
The template author, not the submitter.
Link to this answerWhere does an author edit ordinary guidance?
In the guidance box beneath the field name, with Edit in Word available.
Link to this answerCan guidance contain paragraphs, bullets, formatting and images?
Rich guidance can. Edit in Word provides the full document-editing experience.
Link to this answerWhy can some guidance not be edited in the lightweight box?
Its rich structure cannot be represented there safely. Editing moves to Word rather than flattening it.
Link to this answerWhere does a submitter see guidance?
In a read-only callout anchored beside the active document field, not as an extra guidance card in Fields to fill.
Link to this answerCan long guidance expand without leaving the document?
Yes, using Show more/less.
Link to this answerHow do I see guidance's exact formatting or images?
Use View in Word.
Link to this answerHow do I reopen guidance after closing it?
Use the Guidance command. Clicking the same field again does not necessarily reopen a callout you closed.
Link to this answerDoes guidance become part of the submitted answer?
No. It is separate metadata. Deliberately copying it into the answer would make that copied text document content.
